Roaming Mustang Sally

When the Mustang Sally box arrives at your school, you will have the opportunity to spend the week with her. The box will contain the Mustang Sally stuffed animal, project instructions, the scheduled destinations map, and perhaps other miscellaneous items.

How it works: You and/or your students can log on to the wikispace. Each geographical region in Texas will have it's own page on the wikispace. The information that we want to know about the other regions is listed under the page "What We Want to Know." Feel free to work on answering these questions before or during your visit with Mustang Sally. When you receive Mustang Sally, you can use whatever web 2.0 technology to show off your region and school. If you feel comfortable uploading it to a page, you may do so. But please do not erase or delete anyone else's work. If you do not feel comfortable with editing a wiki page, you can email the content to Casey Rogers at crogers@chisumisd.org. She will upload it to the appropriate page.

Under Construction: The wiki is currently being worked on, and ideas are being fine-tuned. Please be patient with us as we work out all the kinks. If you have any suggestions, feel free to contact either Cheryl Roddy, fourth grade teacher, croddy@chisumisd.org, or Casey Rogers, technical contact, crogers@chisumisd.org. Currenlty we do not have it open for anyone to edit but ourselves. Once we figure out the partners, we will work on getting the editing rights to the people who need it.

Your Job: Have fun sharing information about your region with other fourth graders! We all have to learn about Texas in fourth grade, so lets show off while we are doing it. When you receive Mustang Sally, help her "learn" all about your school and town you live in. There is a list of topics that we would like to know about. You can answer as many as you want from this list. You can use many different Web 2.0 tools to share your information with us. When this project is finished, all the students will have a very clear picture of what life is like in the all regions of Texas.

Other details: You will only have a week with Mustang Sally, but you can start planning and working before you recivee her. Although I ask, please DO NOT POST anything to the wikispace until you have Mustand Sally in your possession. That way we can truly track her destination. You can just save anything you create and upload it when Mustang Sally is physically with you.

Another Point: Don't forget, this is a collaboration for ALL OF US and not just Chisum Elementary. Just because you may be one of the last destinations on the list for Mustang Sally, doesn't mean you can't go to the wikispace to see where Mustang Sally is and also learn about the regions where she has been.

Shipping: Here is where I will need your help. This is what I was thinking: The US postal service has a type of mailing called a "flat rate." It applies to ONLY within the US. The "flat rate" boxes are done via Priority Mail, so they get to you within three day and they have a free "tracking number" that you can view online. It will also cost either $10.95 or $13.95 (based on size). Right now, I am asking for you to pay this amount (or maybe your school or PTA will even reimburse you) in order to send Mustang Sally to her next destination.

Now for the Questions:

1. Are you still willing to participate in the project now that you know more about it? (And would you be willing to work together?)

2. Are you willing to pack Mustang Sally up, take her to the post office, and pay to have her shipped to the next destination?

3. Can you please send me your exact address along with your school name, region you wish to represent, size of city (small or large- we want to try to include at one from each type), and what grade(s) you teach?
